Over 28 years ago I went shopping
for the gown of my dreams. Being a single mother I was on a very tight budget, but I did find a wonderful gown. The
bridal shop did not have my size, did not want to alter the dress for me (even though now I know they could have just let
out the side seams just a bit), so I left disappointed.
My mother suggested I have a gown made by
a friend of the family to keep within budget. I went to a local fabric shop and picked out my fabric and lace and
pattern to create a nice dress. I had about 6 months to have the gown made, fitted and finished. I
was told no fittings were needed, she had my measurements. On the day of my wedding the gown was delivered to
the church and when I put the gown on I literally gasped! I was very disappointed with the finished, or unfinished,
gown made straight from a pattern and not fitted to my personal shape and height and she made changes to the design that I
didn't expect.
A lesson learned: on the day of your wedding, there is no opportunity to make changes
so it is very important to meet with an experienced seamstress to ensure a proper fit.

Silk Bridal and Prom was born.
